Certificate Program Courses
The Leadership Dynamics graduate certificate is 15 credit hours. There are 9 required credit hours and 6 credit hours from the elective courses listed below.
Various interpersonal and intrapersonal skills that impact leadership are examined in this course. Through examining topics like communication, motivation, emotional intelligence, presentation, and listening styles, participants gain a deeper understanding of how these factors affect their personal leadership style and the adults they are leading.
In this course, participants critically analyze their own leadership styles and skills and examine leadership and ethical behavior. By examining leadership and adult theories, they gain practical tools to help develop leaders and analyze and manage teams.
In this experiential course, participants apply theories, ideas, and principles learned throughout the leadership dynamics program to a real organizational problem or setting and present their experiences to a panel of academic and professional practitioners. (This course may only be taken after completing EDACE 832, 835, 836, and 837).
Prerequisites EDACE 832, EDACE 835 and one of the courses below, or course equivalent approved by program coordinators.
This course provides an introduction to the foundations of adult leadership in the context of managing a culturally diverse workforce. Concepts of globalization as well as cross-cultural and international environments as they relate to adult leadership are emphasized through theory to practice projects and research.
This course focuses on group and team behavior and processes in the adult education environment. Various factors that impact group behavior, processes, and effectiveness will be examined and participants will learn skills needed to more effectively manage and facilitate groups and teams of adults to achieve organizational objectives, accomplish tasks, and fulfill individual members’ needs.
Leadership management skills critical to building and maintaining quality programs and organizations are the focus of this course. Participants identify their leadership and management skills and strengths, investigate effective coaching and mentoring models, and learn how to solve problems, delegate responsibility, and manage change. Conflict management, dealing with problem employees, and basic legal issues are also addressed.
This course focuses on how managers and leaders can use coaching to maximize performance. Drawing on tenets from adult learning, athletics, and organizational development, participants will learn how to develop a coaching culture, evaluate developmental coaching models, and use coaching skills to enhance performance.
This course will examine the traits of generations as defined as an age cohort that shares unique formative years. The context of teaching and leading multigenerations will be addressed. Students will learn how to apply concepts to foster communication and collaboration of all generations present.
