OLATHE — Join Kansas State University Olathe at 8:30 a.m. on July 18 for a two-hour workshop about client psychology and applying tools to help build relationships.

Client psychology is one of the most pressing issues facing today’s personal financial planners, so this transformative CEU event is designed for new and emerging financial planners who want to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world of personal financial planning.

If you’re looking for ways to elevate your relationships with your clients and develop a stronger understanding of how to provide guidance and connection, this workshop will provide you with the tools and strategies you need to be successful.

Topics include:

  • Navigating Client Conflicts: Equip yourself with conflict management skills to navigate client disagreements and refocus on shared values and goals. Each client has their own set of goals and ways of communicating, so conflict is normal. Find out how you can navigate client conflicts with grace and ease.
  • Motivating Change: Learn how to develop and deliver better advice by understanding the underlying values, attitudes and beliefs that drive your clients. Use these insights to inspire positive change and overcome resistance. The more you understand your clients, the better you’ll be able to support them as they grow and change.
  • Crisis Management: Develop your ability to support clients effectively during critical financial crises. Navigating stressful situations can be difficult, especially when money is involved. Your clients may come to you with a financial crisis, so it’s imperative that you learn how to assist them as they navigate this situation.
  • Building Trust with Clients: For new planners, gain targeted advice on overcoming hurdles to earn trust from potential clients. Building a relationship with your clients takes time, but taking the right steps can ensure you’re launching your relationship with a strong foundation of mutual respect.

In addition to developing your understanding of client psychology and its impact on financial advising, you’ll also have an opportunity to connect with other personal financial planners.

Instructors for this event include Megan McCoy, Ph.D., LMFT, AFC®, CFT-I™ and Billy Spencer, CFP®, CFT-ITM, FBS®.

McCoy is a professor of practice in the financial planning department at Kansas State University, as well as a licensed marriage and family therapist, an Accredited Financial Counselor®, and a Certified Financial Therapist-I™.
