OLATHE — John Moncke, president of the Power and Light District in Kansas City, Missouri, is joining Kansas State University Olathe's advisory board.

The advisory board is a group comprised of business, government, public education and community leaders. Board members provide feedback and guidance on educational, research and outreach programs, improvement of facilities, expanding the base of support and working toward the goals of K-State and K-State Olathe's strategic plans. They also serve as advocates in the community.

Board members actively participate in the continual assessment of the campus progress and the development of university-industry partnerships.

Moncke is the board's 23rd member.

He has a background in business growth by developing relationships. He spent a decade at Sporting Kansas City, helping the club grow its business and brand. He also spent several years as a buyer and merchandise planner at Target headquarters.

"John's expertise and background in hospitality management and leadership will be valuable for the advisory board discussion," said Debbie Kirchhoff, executive director of strategic initiatives at K-State Olathe. "We are excited to have John on the advisory board."
