Scholarship funding comes from the Johnson County Education Research Triangle, or JCERT, and the Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Kansas City Education Foundation.
The JCERT scholarships are funded through the commitment of Johnson County residents, who approved part of a one-eighth sales tax in 2008. The funding supports part of the campus' operations and provides scholarships for graduate students at the Olathe campus.
Scholarships for the hospitality management students are made possible through a partnership with the Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Kansas City Education Foundation, Kansas State University and K-State Olathe. Association members are local hotels in the Greater Kansas City metro that support the education of current and future leaders through scholarships and continuing education.
For many students, scholarships help on multiple levels.
"This scholarship is a big motivation," Khadka said. "I feel my hard work getting recognized, which makes me and my family proud. This scholarship money lowers my financial burden and helps increase my focus on research and study."
