OLATHE — The U.S. Department of Agriculture, or USDA, is hosting a career expo from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at at Kansas State University's Olathe campus.

The USDA is hiring for vacancies in the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, or NIFA, and Economic Research Service, or ERS, both of which are in the process of relocating to the Kansas City metropolitan area.

"This is a great opportunity for K-State students, alumni and others who are seeking to use their knowledge, skills and talent in professions that support the Greater Kansas City region and the nation as a whole," said Debbie Kirchhoff, executive director of strategic initiatives at K-State's Olathe campus.

Representatives from both agencies will be conducting information sessions throughout the afternoon and evening that focus on career opportunities at the agencies, special programs available to college students and recent graduates, the benefits of working for the federal government and more.

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture provides leadership and funding for research and programs that advance agriculture-related sciences. The agency also addresses current and emerging challenges and opportunities in food and agricultural sciences.

The Economic Research Service looks at emerging issues in agriculture, food, the environment and rural America and also conducts economic research.

Attendees of the USDA career expo also are invited to attend Kansas City One Health Day, which is from 3-6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the campus. The topic for this year's event — climate change and extreme weather events — intersect with much of the research and focus of both USDA agencies.
