Introduction to Basic Laboratory Skills and Contract Research Organizations (CROs) Workshop

• Demonstrate technical skills used in a laboratory setting
• Demonstrate safety protocols in BSL-2 laboratory
• Knowledge of general principles of experimental design and data analysis
• Ability to write protocol documentation, laboratory notes and technical professional communication as needed
• Apply the processes and knowledge gained in practice and exhibit learning during the workshop
• Discuss the use of laboratory data to support preclinical/clinical research
• Understand the basis of research assays and how results are interpreted

Safety in the lab is critical. Because of that, participants should wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Clothing and shoes must cover the entire leg and foot so that no skin is left exposed, including ankles. Pants, skirts or dresses that leave any area of skin exposed — including ripped jeans and crop tops — are not allowed in the lab. Shoes must cover the entire foot. The shoe must have a back and cover the top of the foot. If shoes do not cover the entire foot, then socks must be worn to cover any exposed skin.

Students and participants are encouraged to wear a shirt representing their alma mater.
