Enrollment Pathways for JCCC Students

Dual Enrollment with JCCC and K-State Olathe

Johnson County Community College students have two pathways into the B.S. in Personal Financial Planning (PFP) degree completion program at K-State Olathe. The first is to complete up to 73 credits at JCCC, which will be transferred to the 120-credit bachelor's degree program. The second is dual enrollment.

Dual enrollment provides the opportunity for students to earn credits from two different institutions at the same time. Students can start dual enrolling with K-State Olathe once they have 24 transfer credits. Most students in the program elect this pathway for the following reasons:

Accessibility

The K-State Olathe campus is conveniently located 10 minutes west down College Blvd from the JCCC campus. Students who are dual enrolling can easily take their classes during the day at JCCC and commute to the K-State Olathe campus for class. In-person courses are held one night a week at the K-State Olathe campus. Twenty-one credits are offered in-person at K-State Olathe and 39 credits are available online. All PFP courses at K-State Olathe are eight weeks in length. Most online courses are 16 weeks in length.

Financial Aid

Students can claim full-time status between the total amount of credits taken at both institutions. For example, if a student is enrolled in 9 credits at JCCC for the Fall semester and enrolled in 3 credits at K-State Olathe for the Fall semester, then that student can claim full-time status with a total of 12 credits. Students will work with their financial aid advisors at both institutions to apply for financial aid and complete the required consortium agreement.

Academic Planning

Students who start dual enrolling at 24 credits can go over a long-term academic plan with the K-State PFP academic advisor. The K-State PFP academic advisor will help ensure that students are taking credits at JCCC that will transfer into the K-State Olathe PFP program. This proactive academic planning process prevents students from taking courses at JCCC that won’t transfer into the PFP program.

Resources

Dual enrolling allows students to use resources at two different institutions. Students can have two academic advisors and use two campuses' worth of student resources, including tutoring, the Career Center and more.
