Semra Fetahovic is the urban food systems initiative program coordinator.
In this role, Fetahovic provides leadership in marketing and outreach for the urban food systems program. She is responsible for developing and maintaining websites, social media, videos, print media and hosting outreach events that are relevant to the program and the Urban Food Systems Symposium, which is held every two years.
Additionally, Fetahovic recruits and maintains communication with graduate students in the program and apprentices of the Growing Growers educational program. She also facilitates communication amongst relevant stakeholders and serves as a resource to students and staff on matters relating to administrative policies and procedures. She also assists faculty in developing and managing grant-funded and other projects that promote the success of the urban food systems program.
Prior to joining the team at K-State Olathe, Fetahovic was the program manager for New Roots for Refugees at Cultivate KC. She assisted farmers in all aspects related to their farm business, including field planning, vegetable production, sales, communication and financials. She managed the program budget, wrote and administered grants and facilitated program development. Fetahovic was also responsible for overseeing the training farm, managing farm inventory, conducting outreach, hosting on-farm events and managing on-site employees and volunteers.
Fetahovic holds a master’s degree in organic agricultural and food systems from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany and a bachelor’s degree in international business administration from Truman State University in Missouri.
