K-State Olathe named an Economic Development Administration University Center

The U.S. Economic Development Administration has designated Kansas State University Olathe as part of its University Center Economic Development Program. The university will receive a $250,000 grant annually over the next five years to support the creation and infrastructure of the K-State Olathe Innovation Accelerator.

The lecture series is being offered by the university's College of Veterinary Medicine.

Numana SWIPE Out Hunger, a food-packaging event for worldwide famine victims, will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Kansas State University Olathe, and community help is needed. The event requires volunteers to package meals and financial contributions to purchase the meals.

An infectious diseases researcher, veterinarian and leader in university international engagement has been chosen to head Kansas State University's presence in Greater Kansas City.

Prema Arasu is K-State Olathe's new CEO and vice provost, succeeding Dan Richardson, who retired June 30. She will begin October 1.

K-State Olathe, American Royal seek entries for best-tasting steak

The American Royal Association and Kansas State University Olathe are looking for the best-tasting steak and are inviting beef producers from across the nation to submit rib-eye steaks for the competition. The second annual American Royal Steak Competition will be the week of Sept. 15 at K-State Olathe, with the winner to be announced at the American Royal's 2013 Grapes & Steaks Competition on Oct. 9.
