Raelene M. Wouda

Assistant Professor of Oncology, Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Raelene Wouda joined the Faculty of Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine as a Medical Oncologist in October 2014, after becoming recognized as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) earlier that year.

Dr. Wouda is a 2003 graduate of the University of Queensland's Bachelor of Veterinary Science program. Upon graduation, she completed a 12-month small animal rotating internship at Queensland Veterinary Specialists, followed by a small animal internal medicine residency at Veterinary Specialist Services — both private referral hospitals in Brisbane, Australia.

Dr. Wouda then completed a Hematology and Transfusion Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine, before moving to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to complete her residency program in veterinary oncology.

At K-State, in addition to her clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Wouda is actively involved in Phase I, II and III clinical trials, many of which possess translational potential.

Her research interests include the use of both new and existing cytotoxic and targeted chemotherapeutic agents in novel roles and combinations, individualized and intensified therapeutic protocols, mechanisms of drug resistance and various manifestations of immunotherapy.
