Frequently Asked Questions About Hemp Testing

How do I request a hemp analysis test and submit samples?

  1. Email ksuhemp@ksu.edu to request a date to submit your sample(s) for testing.

  2. Once the date is set with the lab personnel, you're ready to collect your sample(s) following the Hemp Sampling Instructions guide.

  3. Complete the Chain of Custody Form (PDF document).

  4. Bring the sample(s) and the completed Chain of Custody Form to Kansas State University's Olathe campus in accordance to your scheduled appointment or mail the sample(s) to K-State Olathe using the U.S. Postal Service. More information about each delivery method is below.

 

How long does the analysis take?

Typical turnaround time is 3-5 business days for fresh samples and 2-3 business days for dried or prepared products.

 

How much does testing cost?

The Basic Panel (five cannabinoids) is $75 and the Expanded Panel (16 cannabinoids) is $105. We also offer moisture content testing of dried samples for $10. Checks and all major credit cards are accepted.

 

Can I mail my sample?

Yes. Samples sent through the mail must be delivered by USPS and packaged in accordance with all local, state and federal guidelines.

Can I drop off the sample in-person?

Yes. Samples can be delivered in-person to the lab with an appointment. Sample drop-off is accepted on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., according to your scheduled time.

Will the KDA use the hemp test results?

The KDA will not use the results of our testing for pre-harvest compliance.

 

Is your lab licensed?

Yes, the K-State Olathe Analytical Lab is a DEA-certified lab for analytical testing of Cannabis and industrial hemp. Our DEA Registration Number is RK0682256.

 

Is growing hemp legal in Kansas?

In April 2018, the Alternative Crop Research Act was signed into law by Gov. Jeff Colyer. This allows the Kansas Department of Agriculture to oversee the Kansas Industrial Hemp Research Program. Learn more about the program.
