Renee Schnurr

U.S. Department of Agriculture Center for Veterinary Biologics (USDA CVB)

 

Renee M. Schnurr is the director of inspection and compliance at the USDA's Center for Veterinary Biologics.

She was raised on a farm in eastern Iowa where she spent her summers walking beans and cultivating corn. She received her B.S. in Microbiology from Iowa State University. Schnurr worked with swine enteric viruses at the Veterinary Medical Research Institute in Ames, Iowa, before joining the Quality Control department for a small swine vaccine manufacturer.

She joined the Center for Veterinary Biologics 33 years ago as a biologics specialist (inspector). Schnurr advanced to the senior biologics specialist, with an emphasis in export certification, and then to the CVB-IC assistant director, where she participated in policy development and resource allocation for the center. She then spent the next 15 years as the inspection section leader, providing oversight, training and policy decisions related to on-site inspections, market release of products and export certification.

Since September of 2021, Schnurr has served as the director of inspection and compliance.

USDA CVB Inspection Process

A review of the inspection process used by the CVB as one way to measure compliance to the Virus-Serum-Toxin Act and title 9, Code of Federal Regulations. The presentation will cover the history of the inspection process, the types of inspections and the current inspection processes.
