Monica Smith

Monica Smith is the Recruitment Consultant at Kansas State University Olathe. She leads recruitment, classification, and hiring activities for the campus and provides expert guidance on HR position development and recruitment management.

Her key responsibilities include managing full-cycle recruitment from position description development through offer letters, establishing and facilitating hiring committees, and ensuring compliance with hiring laws and institutional standards. Smith collaborates with campus leadership to develop recruitment strategies and provides training for supervisors and hiring committee members.

Smith has more than 16 years of management and leadership experience, including extensive expertise in employee relations, workforce development, and organizational communication.

Before joining K-State Olathe, she served as a Human Resources and Operations Specialist at Walmart, supporting large, multi-site operations and high-volume hiring. She drove performance through data analysis and championed the human experience through process improvements, actionable strategies, and trust. Previously, Smith was a Human Resources Lead at Walmart in Paola, Kansas, where she reduced employee turnover by over 5%, increased employee engagement, and supported more than 200 associates.

Smith holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Western Governors University, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Southern New Hampshire University and is SHRM-CP certified.
