Garret Ashabranner

Garret Ashabranner, Ph.D., is the program manager for SRIS, where he leads the scientific review process for animal food ingredient definition submissions. In this role, he serves as the primary liaison between K-State Olathe and AAFCO, manages a network of subject matter experts, and oversees the scientific evaluation of new ingredients used in livestock feed and pet food.

Before joining SRIS, Ashabranner worked as an Animal Scientist with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine, where he reviewed feed ingredient submissions and advised on nutritional and environmental claims. His work supported the safety and utility review of AAFCO feed definitions, GRAS notices and Food Additive petitions for animal food.

Earlier in his career, he managed a broiler research farm and taught agricultural science courses at multiple institutions. His expertise includes regulatory science, poultry production, manure management and agricultural education. His research has focused on broiler management, manure utilization, and feed additive evaluation.

Ashabranner earned his Ph.D. in Poultry Science from the University of Georgia and both his M.S. and B.S. in Agriculture from Stephen F. Austin State University.
