David Spittal David J. Spittal, Ph.D., is the fifh president of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. He took office on Feb. 1, 2012.

Spittal previously served as president of Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina, for 17 years from 1994 to 2011. Under his leadership the university expanded its locations to include four learning centers in addition to its main campus. His work led SWU to strengthen and build relationships with the local and regional community.

Spittal has served in a variety of professional volunteer roles including executive committee vice president for the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, co-chair of the Pickens County South Carolina Vision 2025 Project, commissioner of the South Carolina Tuition Grants Commission and as an on-site accreditation evaluator for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

He has also served on the board of directors of the Wesleyan Investment Foundation and as a member of the General Board of the Wesleyan Church International.

Spittal was educated at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and holds an Ed.D. in educational administration, an M.S. in music education and a B.S. in instrumental/vocal musicand art education.

He and his wife Donna have two grown sons and six grandchildren.
