Brooke Freeman Brooke Freeman is honored to be the City of Kansas City, Missouri's first Food Systems Coordinator. Her work is guided by the City's Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan and focuses on enhancing local food production and access by addressing land availability and affordable fresh produce. While at the City, Brooke has led the inaugural cycle of the Promoting Local Agriculture and Neighborhood Transformation (PLANT) grant, revising the Urban Agriculture Ordinance to meet current industry needs, and overseeing a team of AmeriCorps Vista members tasked with implementing community gardens on vacant land bank lots.

Before joining the City, Brooke served as the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator at Urban Produce Push (previously After the Harvest) where she organized over 1,000 volunteers that helped rescue local produce and supported produce distribution at several elementary schools through the Caring for Kids program.

Brooke received her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and an M.A. in Sustainable Communities from Northern Arizona University, where her thesis focused on local food security and social equity. Brooke is also a mother of two who loves any excuse to go outside and enjoy nature whether it is experimenting in her garden or exploring a new hiking trail with her family.
