Andrew King

Andrew KingAndrew King is the research analyst for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association Foundation Inc. (OOFI). King joined the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), the largest non-for-profit organization representing the interests of over 150,000 small business owners and professional employee drivers, in July 2011. He received a promotion to Research Assistant for OOFI in January 2012 and a promotion to Research Analyst in November 2015.

During his time at OOFI, King has administered the Mary Johnston Scholarship Program, which has awarded more than 100 scholarships and $350,000 in award proceeds since 1998. He is also responsible for monitoring OOFI's Online Education Series, which has helped thousands of men and women to obtain their own operating authority and to operate a successful business. Moreover, King has taken part in the analysis of various surveys as well as numerous research reports and white papers.

King also is a member and a friend of three Transportation Research Board Standing Committees, which are part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Namely, the Truck and Bus Safety Committee (ACS60), where King serves as Secretary, and the Trucking Industry Research Committee (AT060), to which King serves as a friend of the committee and a member of the Truck Size and Weight Subcommittee. Each committee plays an important role in the academic component of trucking.

King has served as subject matter expert, providing various information and input to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of Inspector General, as well other state and federal agencies and industry research groups, such as Battelle and Noblis. To which King served as a point of contact in a U.S. DOT grant to promote and accelerate the deployment of SmartPark, a system that disseminates information concerning the current availability of truck parking to drivers. King also served as co-author on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA's) final report regarding the Agency's Tech-Celerate Now program, which was designed to study industry awareness and the perception concerning advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technologies.

King also has held responsibilities administering federal grants, including a cooperative agreement with Region 7 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to utilize the effectiveness of commercially available mobile idle and fuel reduction technologies on commercial motor vehicles.
