Experience K-State Olathe through food, fun and education on April 16

OLATHE — Students, visitors and community members are invited to become rooted in purple at Kansas State University Olathe's open house on Saturday, April 16.

Open house is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Olathe campus, 22201 W. Innovation Drive. It is part of the annual All-University Open House at Kansas State University. Open house at the Manhattan campus is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Polytechnic campus in Salina. The day features hands-on demonstrations, entertainment, food, exhibits, tours and more.

Open house is free to attend and no registration is required.

"We are delighted to open our doors and share what it means to be be a Wildcat," said Dr. Ralph Richardson, interim dean and CEO of K-State Olathe. "K-State Olathe excels in K-12 engagement, graduate education, workforce development, research and community outreach. Open house is a wonderful way to see how K-State benefits Johnson County and the Greater Kansas City area."

K-State Olathe's open house will spotlight what it means to be a part of the K-State family, as well as the campus' academic programs and expertise in animal health; food safety and security; horticulture; health and nutrition; K-12 education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics — or STEM; sensory and consumer research and outreach efforts.

In addition to program information and K-State connections, attractions include a workshop for visitors to make their own pet treats; a green screen for posing in some classic K-State events and scenarios; the opportunity to participate in a sensory analysis test; an activity that improves right-brain, left-brain connection; the results of a soybean growing competition with K-12 students; and more. A tomato plant giveaway also is being provided by the K-State Horticulture Research and Extension Center.

Johnson County Research and Extension and K-State Research and Extension agents will offer comprehensive information, including advice and tips about lawns and gardens, healthy snacking and food storage, insect identification, Alzheimer’s disease, water quality, nuisance critters and more.

SmartVet, a partnering company using lab space at K-State Olathe, will demonstrate its parasite control technology for cattle.

From 9 a.m. to noon, K-State Olathe will be the source for a live broadcast by local sports radio morning show Sports Radio 810 WHB.

Lunch will be provided by Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. while supplies last."
