OLATHE — Dr. Ralph Richardson, interim dean and CEO of the Kansas State University Olathe campus, has been chosen to give the 2016 Recognition Lecture at the 2016 Annual Conference of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, or AAVMC.

The conference is March 2-6 in Washington, D.C. Veterinary medicine educators will share ideas on teaching, research, One Health and leadership related to animal health and higher education. The conference also will celebrate the organization's 50th anniversary and its contributions to advancing academic veterinary medicine.

"I am honored and delighted for this opportunity," Dr. Richardson said. "Veterinary education and the impact of animals on humans and the environment are very important to me. Kansas State University has a proud heritage in veterinary medicine and leadership — one that we saw the College of Veterinary Medicine build on to increase its most recent national ranking. I look forward to representing Kansas State University, the state of Kansas and the Greater Kansas City region to my fellow veterinary medicine educators across the nation and the globe."

Dr. Richardson's keynote, "Reflecting on the Page, Looking to the Future," will address key events that influenced his nearly 50 year career in higher education and will present suggestions that he believes the veterinary profession should consider as it embraces future challenges and opportunities.

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges provides leadership and promotes excellence in academic veterinary medicine in order to improve the health and welfare of animals, people and the environment.
