Kansas State University Olathe and Aerotek Scientific have developed a workforce development series for individuals interested in careers in the animal health and food industries. The series will be offered from 5:45 to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 8, 2014, at K-State Olathe, 22201 W. Innovation Drive.

Topics for the series include resume and curriculum vitae building, interviewing skills, career pathways next steps and the art of networking.

Keynote speakers from the industries will open each topic, followed by breakout sessions led by Kansas State University career and employment services experts. The breakout sessions will be interactive and geared to early career -- high school juniors and seniors through four years in the job market -- and mid-late career -- five years or more in the job market.

"The unique partnership with Aerotek and K-State Olathe provides secondary and postsecondary students and adults the opportunity to re-tool, network and understand the gaps facing a skilled workforce in the animal health and food science industry," said Micheal Strohschein, director of K-12 science education partnerships at K-State Olathe.

Keynote speakers for the series include: Kim Young, Kansas City Animal Health Corridor director; Daryl Pint, CEVA Biomune CEO; Marianne Swaney-Stueve, K-State Sensory and Consumer Research director; Dan Richardson, K-State Olathe CEO emeritus; Samer Al-Murrani, managing director from Bimini LLC; and Jill Carson, food program manager from UL DQS Inc.

"Aerotek is excited to launch the Workforce Development Series in collaboration with K-State Olathe," said Johna Koelzer, manager of branch recruiting for Aerotek. "We look forward to partnering with K State to bring skills development, networking and recruitment opportunities to the Kansas City community."

Following the Jan. 8 resume and curriculum vitae building session, other sessions will follow from 5:45 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 5, March 5 and April 16, 2014.
